Spend the day with the ladies of Invoketress Dance and tap into their hive of expertise and knowledge at the first ever Invoketress Dance Retreat! The day will be filled with dance workshops, thought-provoking talks, and delicious, nourishing food. Learn a variety of dance styles and nuances outside the norm of traditional Bellydance. Join in open discussion and dialogue around some of the pertinent topics related to Bellydance today. End the day with guided peer-to-peer massage therapy and meditation. BIOGRAPHY: Anne Vermeyden is a PhD candidate in History at the University of Guelph. Her dissertation focuses on the transnational history of belly dance in the city of Toronto. Her work explores why and how belly dance forms from across North Africa and the Middle East entered new contexts and took on new meanings in Toronto between approximately 1960 and 1990. Vermeyden also performs belly dance as a solo artist in the Kitchener-Waterloo area and offers lectures and workshops on dance history. http://annevermeyden.weebly.com/
