SUMMER MULTI-LEVEL INTENSIVES (Tuesdays 6pm-8pm at FLO Studio, 260 Waterloo Ave. Guelph)
$96 for all four, $30 each
A summer full of drama, intrigue and Bellydance combos! Ishra will explore four archetypal characters in Middle Eastern Dance: Dalla the coquette, Delwa the spoiled, El Malika the queen and El Sufi, the wise woman. Drawing on her strong theatre acting background, she will not only outline the characters, but delve deeper, helping to draw them out of you and become them. She will also teach combinations specific to the different characters.
Dalla (The Coquette) – Tuesday, July 5, 2016
Forever youthful, playful and flirtatious. Light and carefree, a character who is coy and plays with the audience with her lovable attitude. Ishra will teach cheeky combos that bubble over with absolute joy.
Delwa (The Spoiled Brat) – Tuesday, July 12, 2016
Earthy, and intriguingly nonchalant, she draws you in with her weighted yet effortless movement.  Learn to oooooze on the dance floor with juicy, sizzling combinations. So delectably smooth.
El Malika (The Queen) – Tuesday, July 19, 2016
A more complex character, culminating El Sitt – the lady and Ma’alima – the boss. She is calm, dignified and strong. Her movements are engaged, lifted and aligned. Powerful combinations will be taught, imbuing benevolence and drawing the audience to her, she has no need to flirt.
El Sufi (The Wise Woman) – Tuesday, July 26, 2016
El Sufi transcends the mundane, using dance as a pathway to inspire. She embodies the sacred and bestows knowledge and blessing on her audience. The combinations command respect, being fully in the present, she invokes wonder, earthy and otherworldly all at once.

Back by popular demand, Ishra will be holding her third annual workshop during the day  – this year on Tribalesque Saidi – a unique workshop blending modern Bellydance with old country Saidi. Ishra uses tribal elements incorporating floreos, intricate isolations and flamenco attitude and seamlessly fuses it with Saidi’s heavy hips, earthy shoulder drops and sly head slides. The muscular precision of Tribal influence tightens the screws on Saidi’s loose folkloric movements, resulting in the coalescence of Tribalesque Saidi. Bring your zills and learn the breakdown of the Saidi beat as well as off beat variations. A day of mixing the old with the new, allowing our art form to continue to grow.Delicious Indian buffet dinner will be available after the workshop and before the show.
